1.) Cassie Logan is a young black girl in the fourth grade whose innocence and trust begins to change when she experiences racisim, hatred, & cruelty because of the color of her skin. She sees how important their land is to her family and sees first hand night riders, burnings, & taunting from other children. This book truly shows how much this little girl had to go through and how she managed to get through it.

2.) Reading this book again from when I was a little girl still brought back some of those feelings of disbelief, empathy, and admiration for what she & her family went through. It teaches you that African Americans at one point did not just smoothly go from being skaves to having freedom without any backlash. Many had to endure a lot and made sacrifices to have what they had.

3.) Classroom project would be hard to do because you would have to be careful not to make students feel uncomfortable or cause tension when discussing as a class. I eiykd start off with a private journal entry to see how they interpreted the book and their personal feelings about it and then see if anyone eiykd want to share what they wrote. ( )

Roll of Thunder. Hear My Cry was a book that I had to read in school. I went to a few different schools when I was younger and I am pretty sure I had to read it at least two or three times. However, after my initial pouting of having to read an assigned book, I found that I was quite drawn in by the story. It has since been years since I have read it but after my initial first few times of forced reading I chose to read the book on my own. It is an amazing story that shows so much of our History and the struggle that many African Americans had to face and even more so during the Great Depression.
This is a wonderful read. I don't know if it is still a required reading in schools. So if it isn't, I recommend picking up this book. ( )

This book is about the racist people in south during the Great Depression. The Logan family is in trouble when the hear about the night riders. The night riders are a group of racist white people harming and killing black people. The Logan children have gotten really sick of the Jefferson Davis School bus trying to run them over so they had a plan. They dug a trench in the rode to get even with them. The Logan children are scared that these people are coming after them. But something else happens.
The Logans' so called friend TJ screws things up. TJ got Stacey (the oldest Logan child) in trouble by cheating. He has gotten Mrs. Logan fired from her teaching job. So then the Logans have excluded him and now TJ is hanging out with two racist boys RW and Melvin. So TJ, RW, and Melvin sneaked into a store. RW killed the owner, TJ stole a pistol, and Melvin stole money. After the robbery, RW and Melvin beat up TJ and then the night riders went to TJ's house. But Mr. Logan and Mr. Morrison (the protector of the Logans)have something to do about it. But a fire strikes. At the end the fire is put out and TJ goes to jail.

This book is about black people are not help right. The characters in the story is Big Ma,Ma,Papa, Mr.Morrison,T.J , Stacey, Christopher-John,and Little Man. So the story begins the white people are mean to the white people. The has all lot of action and mysteries. I like this book because is that the author describes the book a lot and describes the feelings. ( )

"Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" by Mildred D. Taylor is a young adult fiction novel set in Southern Mississippi in 1933. Taylor is an African American who was born in Jackson, Mississippi, so she understands firsthand the hardship of growing up in the face of racism.

The novel follows the Logan family, an African American family growing up outside of Vicksburg, MS during the Great Depression. They are different from the families that surround them in that they own the land they live and work on. The four Logan children, Little Man, Christopher-John, Cassie, and Stacy, must learn about growing up a different color and the kind of trouble that brings to them. They are forced to deal with things they never should have too, but learn to overcome adversity.

I thought this was an excellent book that covers the topic of things such as racism and fear. I really enjoyed how it was written and the characters. Obviously the major topic in this book is racism and overcoming how they were treated. The Logan children begin this book more innocent and unknowing to the way the world is around them. Cassie wonders why they get made fun of every morning by the passing school bus, and why they get old torn up books in class. The children slowly begin to realize that it is not safe for them to share their opinions in certain company, and that they are treated differently because of the color of their skin. The Logan children befriend a white boy named Jeremy, so they have to deal with the problems that come with interracial friendships. I think Taylor did a really good job of shedding light to these issues that are still very much alive in today's world. I completely believe that racism is around and it is more than just between blacks and whites. It is an issue that students can relate to because they are witnesses or victims of it first hand. I think racism is a horrible problem humans just can't seem to get past, and reading books like this remind us just how bad it affects our character.

*compare how people were treated in this time and how they are today

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to young adults. When I am and English teacher I would defiantly have my students read this book. ( )
