"From the New York Times bestselling author of The Other Girl and Justice for Sara comes a thrilling psychological drama about a woman who believes she escaped a brutal murder years ago-but does anyone else believe her? Sienna Scott grew up in the dark shadow of her mother's paranoid delusions. Now, she's returned home to confront her past and the unsolved murder that altered the course of her life. In her mother's shuttered house, an old fear that has haunted Sienna for years rears its ugly head -that it was she who had been the killer's target that night. And now, with it, a new fear-that the killer not only intended to remedy his past mistake-he's already begun. But are these fears any different from the ones that torment her mother? As the walls close in, the line between truth and lie, reality and delusion disintegrate. Has Sienna's worst nightmare come true? Or will she unmask a killer and finally prove she may be her mother's look-alike, but she's not her clone?"--… (más)

This book is kind of annoying, but mostly for small things and semi-trite writing. As in “by God, she was falling in love with him.” Also, a guy who is supposed to be a hard-core drinker, who frequents a bar where he is well known says, “she was stepping out on me.” I don’t think so. Also, Sienna is afraid of everything. Even after she’s lived abroad for the last 10 years and is 28 yo. Whatever. You decide ( )

This is a chilling novel that explores perhaps one of our deepest fears...that danger is always closer than we think. The whole premise of this just sounded fascinating. The main character...Sienna Scott...stumbles across a dead body when leaving her college library late at night. She is haunted by the similarities between herself and the victim...so much so that she flees to London where she remains for ten years. Eventually though, she has to return home to take care of her mother who suffers from a paranoid personality disorder. Almost immediately she starts having more reason to think she actually had been the intended victim all along. The book does a really good job of getting into your head and making you start to question just who you should believe. I really liked the story but the book isn’t perfect. The writing felt a little juvenile at times, and the romance...even though there was nothing objectionable to it... was just unnecessary in making the story. I would have to say that it was a thoroughly enjoyable read and kept me on the edge of my seat guessing the killer and the motive until the very end. ( )

I have mixed feelings about this book. I’ve really enjoyed everything else over it by Erica Spindler, but for some reason this one just didn’t do it for me. It would definitely moments that make the book different and memorable but overall I couldn’t connect with any of the characters especially Sienna, the main character. The best way to put it, if you choose to read this it won’t be the worst thing you’ve read and it won’t be the best thing you’ve read. I don’t think you’ll feel like you wasted your time. ( )

This book started out slow for me. And the story moved way to fast in my opinion. You dont meet someone new for 5 minutes and knock on there door at 3 am the same night just cuz there lights are on and your lonely. And I'm not fond of books that hit you in the face the second to the last chapter with the "mystery solved". So I did not think I was going to enjoy reading this story. BUT It started to draw me in and I finished reading this in 2 days. I liked it. It was a good story but not a GREAT story. Maybe if it was told in a different way or the characters had a bit of a different personality I would have loved it. All in all it was a satisfying read. ( )

Fast paced thriller! Family dysfunction and mental illness. The author was a master of weaving a spider web and totally throwing me off the scent of the killer...just when I really thought I figured it out. Have never read this author before, but definitely will again.

Sienna stumbles across a dead body, and has a sinking feeling that it was suppose to be her. She is tormented so much, and rightfully so, she leaves for London for 10 years, leaving her step brother to care for her Mom. She returns ready to care for her mom and restart her life, only to have the unsold murder case be reopened.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone!
