Oh My! Not a cliffhanger but a surprise and bittersweet grief at the end because of that unexpected twist in the plot.

I see three plotlines in this story:
* The evolution of the relationship between Marcus and Benjamin that deepens with mutual love and support, steamy sex and humor.
* Marcus's search and reunion with his brother.
* The mystery case.

The author's fabulous prose entwines and develops these plotlines with clearness and a smoothness that amaze me.

I only have a minimal objection and is about Marcus. OK, Marcus is a truly romantic man but I think that he's a little bit mushy in certain moments.

Finally, this book can be considered as standalone, but is much better and I suggest to read the previous books in the series.
