A novellagyűjtemény szerzői számomra többnyire ismeretlenek voltak, Lavie Tidhar és Alastair Reynolds neve tűnt csak ismerősnek számomra. A történetek többnyire elég rövidek, a témaválasztás változatos, igyekeztek különböző történeteket összegyűjteni. A minőség elég vegyes, volt pár ahol nem igazán tudtam, hogy mit is akar a szerző, néhánynál a stílus bejött de a történet nem igazán fogott meg. És végül volt pár ami tényleg tetszett, a legjobbak talán ezek voltak: Ibbotson: "Do No Harm" Fulton: "The Whisperer", Pieraccini: "F sharp 4". De igazából itt is az az érzésem, hogy egy novellagyűjteménynél szinte mindig csak 2-3 novella tetszik, vagyis túl sok rosszat kell elolvasni a néhány érdekes kedvéért. This is a quite solid and varied anthology, and an excellent way to discover the kind of science fiction that it’s being written in Great Britain right now, which, after finishing this book, I’d say it’s more to my taste than most of today’s American short science fiction. Although most of the pieces were just good, not outstanding, nearly all of them were worth the time I spent reading them. I read quite a lot of science fiction short stories so it’s was a surprise to find that around half of the authors were new to me —don’t expect just the “usual suspects” here— and that I had only read a couple of the stories before. My highlights were Lavie Tidhar’s “Talking to Ghosts at the Edge of the World” and Malcolm Devlin “The Purpose of the Dodo is to be Extinct”. On the whole, an interesting read. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Twenty-six stories, selected by editor Donna Scott from disparate places, that represent some of the best SF published anywhere in 2018; dreamlike glimpses of pristine worlds that will destroy us before we destroy them; stories of work-based friendships, mistrust and isolation; of alienation and othering; stories of slavery given an acceptable face through beautiful voice and the ever-present need to keep fighting injustice; stories of bodily choice being made a crime; stories of rebellions we thought we'd already had but need to have again. We have another end to childhood. And we have the murder of story itself, involving an AI...
