Van Thomas Olde Heuvelt heb ik vorig jaar Hex gelezen, dat eigenlijk té eng voor mij was. Dus het was met angst en beven dat ik aan Dolores Dolly Poppedijn begon. Gelukkig viel dit mee. Het verhaal is erg kort, eigenlijk al afgelopen voor het goed en wel begonnen is. Het gaat over een vrouw die haar kindje verloren is en het heel hard terugwenst. Daarbij raakt ze haar grip op de werkelijkheid nogal kwijt. Omdat je als lezer de gebeurtenissen door haar ogen volgt raak je zelf de grip op de werkelijkheid ook nogal kwijt. Daardoor een wat verwarrende leeservaring. Ik wil altijd graag weten hoe het écht zit. Die attitude moet ik hier loslaten. The beginning of the book was strong, the desperate mother, trying to recreate the daughter she lost.
What I missed though, is more interaction between Charlotte and Gilman than the (almost obligatory) way he's being there for her, also desperately trying to help her.
The last chapters were confusing, like parts of the story were skipped to make it fit into the amount of pages books like these always have.
The rhyme in the text was not annoying to me, but I didn't find that it added anything either.
All in all a horrific read ;-) ( )
