ENSUALITY RATING: No PROFANITY; No SEXUAL ENCOUNTERS; No Euphemistic "CODE WORDS

GENRE: Historical English Romance; CLEAN Romance; Inspirational Romance;

SETTING: Thornwood Keep, England.

CENTRAL FEMALE CHARACTER: Lady ELEANOR de TANIE – playful and considerate; age 20; looks are plain; speaks her mind; cheerful and helpful to all.

CENTRAL MALE CHARACTER: HUGH de MAURY/Lord Thornwood – a focused and committed workhorse; suspicious who’s only intent is to build up Thornwood Keep.

SYNOPSIS: The king had assigned Hugh with the task of finding a husband for Lady Eleanor, cousin of his former wife Jane. He expects her to be pushy but instead finds her being playful with the servants as they cheered her on. He refuses to allow his son to be anything other than a knight.

WHAT I LIKED: Busy Isobel. She is so adorable.

RATING: (5) stars BECAUSE each plot has action worthy of reading. Once again, the author provides each character with personality; very detailed. Yes, I have read 4 books and cannot help but come back for more. On my way to the next book; Adoration (The Sword and the Cross Chronicle #5) ( )

Chapter 1 A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps. Proverbs 16:9
England, June 1194 The thick roots ran deep beneath the stump, but Hugh just smiled. This wasn’t the first challenge he had ever encountered in his life and it wouldn’t be the last. He shoved the spade into the earth and glanced at the peasant lad making short jabs into the soft dirt on the other side of the trunk. The sun had not reached its zenith, and if they were at all lucky, their work would be finished before the noontide meal. Even so, the boy’s wrinkled brow shone with sweat and he wore a look of irritation.

I’m not used to sitting around doing nothing, so I thought I would provide a little amusement for your servants while they scurried about fulfilling your orders.
I wonder, where is your chapel? I did not see a room set aside within, nor do I see a place to worship without. Tell me, where do you say your morning prayers? Where does the priest give absolution when he visits?
I am not sure you know of my circumstances before I came here, but I have lived in various keeps and, depending on the lord, I was given various tasks. Some of which included feeding the horses and livestock.
I am no longer careless. I have learned to eat as the peasants do, and I have cut out the tongues of those who inadvertently utter my name.
Your future husband must be loyal to the crown and worthy of your hand.
