Living Geography is a resource designed for geography teachers. Drawing from recent school-focused research, it supports teachers in developing a concept-based curriculum that is relevant, purposeful and exciting for young people. Each chapter contains a conceptual, research-based overview followed by classroom strategies and resources to turn these concepts into practice. Living Geography captures ways in which geography in the secondary school curriculum presents young people with a basis to understand their world. It focuses on the need for young people to see the purpose of learning geography. It helps teachers to challenge their students with big questions about their lives, the future and how they are connected to other people and places, from the local to the global scale. In this way Living Geography aims to induct young people into 'thinking geographically'.Living Geography: *embraces 'young people's geographies' - young people's experiences and encounters with the world *is current and future oriented while still recognising the past, encouraging young people to envision the future world and their role within it *is local but set in wider (global) contexts *investigates processes that bring change to environments - physical, social, economic and political *encourages a critical understanding of change, sustainability and development.
