Polaris (1920): An unnamed narrator describes his nightly obsession with the North Star, and his recurring dreams of a city under siege. Beyond the Wall of Sleep (1919): An intern at a mental hospital relates his experience with Joe Slater, an inmate who died at the facility a few weeks after being confined as a criminally insane murderer. The White Ship (1919): A lighthouse keeper named Basil Elton engages upon a peculiar fantasy in which a bearded man piloting a mystical white ship is found sailing upon a bridge of moonlight. Elton joins the bearded man on this ship, and together they explore a mystical chain of island unlike anything that can be found on Earth. The Doom that Came to Sarnath (1920): More than 10,000 years ago, a race of shepherd people colonized the banks of the river Ai in a land called Mnar. After settling down, a group of people migrated to the shores of a vast and lonely lake at the heart of Mnar, founding the metropolis of Sarnath. The Cats of Ulthar (1920): In the town of Ulthar it is forbidden to kill cats. Celephais (1922): A child named Kuranes creates a city in a dream named Celephais. Now a lonely man in his forties, Kuranes once again seeks the city he made in his dreams. From Beyond (1920): An unnamed narrator details his experiences with a scientist named Crawford Tillinghast, who has created a device that allows people to perceive planes of existence outside the scope of mundane reality. Nyarlathotep (1920): An unnamed narrator describes a man named Nyarlathotep whose supernatural powers seem to cause nightmares. Ex Oblivione (1920): A dying man dreams of a locked bronze gate, and longs to know what lies beyond. The Quest of Iranon (1921): A golden-haired youth named Iranon wonders into the city of Teloth, where he tells fantastic tales of the great city of Aira. The Moon-Bog (1921): An unnamed narrator describes the fate of his friend, Denys Barry, who reclaims an ancestral estate in Ireland. Against the pleas and warnings of the local peasantry, Barry drains the nearby bog and suffers terrible consequences. The Outsider (1921): A mysterious individual who has been living alone in a castle for as long as he can remember decides to break free in search of light and human contact. The Other Gods (1921): Barzai the Wise, a high priest and prophet greatly learned in the lore of the "gods of the earth", attempts to scale the mountain of Hatheg-Kla in order to see the gods in person. Hypnos (1922): A unnamed sculptor who fears sleep recounts the story of meeting a mysterious man in a railway station. What the Moon Brings (1922): A unnamed narrator wanders through his garden one night in the moonlight and sees strange and bizarre things. Azathoth (1922): The unnamed protagonist lives in a world that has been stripped of imagination and magics. One night, as he watches the stars, he is able to observe secret vistas unsuspected by normal humanity The Descendant (1927): Lord Northam is a "harmlessly mad" Londoner who "screams when the church bells ring". Once a proclaimed scholar and athlete, he now "seeks... not to think" and only begins to explain the fear he lives under when confronted with a copy of the Necronomicon. Cool Air (1926): A unnamed narrator explains why he cannot stand to feel a "draught of cool air". Pickman's Model (1926): Richard Upton Pickman is a Boston painter who creates horrifying images. After Pickman's mysterious disappearance, the narrator, a unnamed friend of Pickman, tells an acquaintance how he once toured Pickman's personal gallery. The Strange High House in the Mist (1931): A philosopher named Thomas Olney, while visiting the town of Kingsport, Massachusetts with his family, becomes intrigued by a strange house on a cliff that overlooks the ocean. The Color Out of Space (1927): Shortly after a meteorite crashes into the hills outside of Arkham, Massachusetts, all the animals and people die or go insane. Years later, an unnamed narrator pieces together the story from the locals. The Dreams in the Witch House (1932): Walter Gilman, a student of mathematics and folklore at Miskatonic University, rents an attic room in the cursed "Witch House". The Case of Charles Dexter Ward (1927): Charles Dexter Ward becomes obsessed with his ancestor, the alleged wizard Joseph Curwen.… (más)
