Review: Daniel’s Story by Carol Matas.

Daniel is a young boy and tells his story about his Jewish family during WWII and Hitler. It’s an emotional story because the reader is hearing from a young Jewish child’s point of view. Every story you read about the Holocaust is one story of its own. There family was living in Frankfurt, Germany. The Nazi’s took control over the area that they were living. It wasn’t long before his family and extended family were separated and endured the harsh events that the Jewish had to go through. When families were torn apart they were taken to different places all over Europe to concentration camps.

His parents, his younger sister and himself were sent to Lodz where they only got a spoon of soup and a ration of vegetables. Daniel’s mother and sister started getting sick when the Nazi started moving them from place to place. His mother finally died of pneumonia and other family members were burned to death or died from a sickness. His father was kept with the men and worked all day and only got six hours of sleep a day. His sister was taken away and Daniel thought he would never see her again.

The story goes on telling about the road work he was doing and what ever other happenings were going on and he did see his sister one more time. He wasn’t sure if any family members survived the Holocaust…as far as he knew he was the only survivor… ( )

Well-read, I thought it was a great historical depiction of what it must have been like living in the ghettos of Poland leading up and thru WWII for the young man who the story centers on. Certainly not an uplifting book but I must applaud their courage in the face of qll the horrors they were subjected to. ( )

Daniel's Story
Daniel’s Story is about a young boy and his family trying to survive the hardship of the war. The story starts off in Frankfurt,Germany. A few weeks later the Nazi’s took control of where him and his family lived. The biggest problem about it was that he was Jewish. A few months later he was moved to a concentration camp where he met someone who was apart the resistance. Well I hope you enjoy my summary about Daniel’s story.

I thought Daniel's story was really good because even thought to make a group about the nazi’s. Another fact was that he survived the Nazi rule. Another fact was that he hadn't given up hope even when his sister and mother died. I think this boy was really brave. I hope you enjoyed my summary.

Daniel's Story is about boy named Daniel and he is alive during when Hitler took over Germany and he lived through the horrible things of being Jewish. Daniel is the oldest he has a little sister Erika and his mother and father. They live in Frankfurt Germany and its hard being a Jewish and not being hurt about. When times started to get really rough Daniel's uncle was sent to a concentration camp for not paying all his parking tickets and the camp sent a box back full of ashes. It was his uncle's ashes. The family really started to beak apart after the death of his uncle, the family was spilt being taken to places all over Europe such as Lodz's. When the were moved to Lodz it was terrible they were only served a spoon full of soup and a ration of vegetables. His mother and sister were being very sick and half of his family were either burned to death or died of sickness and it seemed to Daniel it was only his family that still lived. As they kept moving his mother got worse and ended up having pneumonia and died by being too sick. His father stayed with the men and worked all day and all night and only slept up to 6 hours same old thing and he thought because he was spilt form his sister that the would never see him again. As Daniel was walking tow work he saw her and could talk to her for the last time. Years went by and Daniels father and him were split but he never knew what happened to his sister did she live through the Nazi's or die with them. As Daniel got older through the years he met a girl named Rosa and they became very close and ended up being engaged but when he Nazi's were defeated he came to learn that his sister died with them. Daniel and his soon to be wife lived in together finally to be happy that they were Jews and didn't have to hide anymore about there culture and religion. ( )
