Can true love ever die? The first novel in a beautiful, heartbreaking new trilogy from Paullina Simons, the international bestselling author of Tully and The Bronze Horseman. Julian lives a charmed life in Los Angeles. Surrounded by friends, he is young, handsome, and runs a successful business. Everything changes after he has a fateful encounter with a mysterious young woman named Josephine. Julian's world is turned upside down by a love affair that takes him, and everyone else in his life, by storm. For the two new lovers, the City of Angels is transformed into a magical playground. But Josephine is not what she seems and carries secrets that threaten to tear them apart-seemingly forever. A broken man, his faith in tatters, Julian meets a mysterious stranger who tells him how to find Josephine again if he is willing to give up everything and take a death-defying trip from which no one has ever returned. So begins Julian and Josephine's extraordinary adventure of love, loss, and the mystical forces that bind people across time and space. It is a journey that propels Julian toward an impossible choice which will lead him to love fulfilled... or to oblivion.… (más)

While intriguing, I felt like this novel didn't quite live up to my expectations. The characters were interesting and the story had some good moments, but overall I struggled to get through the book. I've really liked some of Paullina Simons's books, so my expectations may have been too high. Either way, I'm not intrigued enough to continue this series. ( )

I had high, high hopes for this novel. Sadly, it was not quite up to par for me. It had a good premise, and the characters were nicely chiseled, but the story just didn't have oomph like I like. It took several chapters before I could get into it. ( )

My first outing with this author. This story captivated me immediately and the writing was a surprise! quite beautiful and poetic and a good match to the story. Now I have paused the audiobook halfway through, as the plot's expected roadblocks come into view. But I will finish it, as I'm sure there is more beauty in the writing to come, even if I'm not - yet - a fan of fantasy elements. ( )

A great summer romance to take along to the beach or enjoy by the pool ( )

This book reads like the first book in a series, just setting up for the rest of the story instead of being a complete story in itself. It was fairly enjoyable, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys slightly magical romance. But a word of caution - best have the next book in the series ready to go when you finish! ( )
