Ella Brook is used to being a fairy in waiting. It means that one day she will become a fairy with her own sparkly wings and Computawand, just like her mom. But sometimes Ella doesn't want to have to wait any longer. After all, she helps her mom remember magic codes all the time! If only there were a spell for growing up faster. Will Ella prove that she's ready to become a fairy? Or will she learn that she doesn't need real magic to save the day?… (más)

All in all a pretty cute read, and my 2 & 3 yo children sat still for an entire chapter at a time. There is enough fun and adventure and a handful of pictures to entertain them. They might still be too small to get the overall story so it was nice to have mini-stories within the book. An older child might want a bit more character development over the stories.

In this sequel to Fairy Mom and Me, Ella Brook is waiting to become a fairy and have her own wings and Computawand just like her mom. She must watch her mom in action until that day arrives. Ella likes helping her mom with spells and magic, but she does not want to wait any longer. She wishes that there was a magic spell to make her grow up faster. Ella must prove to her mom that she is ready to be a fairy and learn that sometimes magic is not the answer to saving the day. I would recommend this for any collection owning the first one in the series. You would not have to read the first one to pick this one up. It would help, but it is not necessary. A great chapter book for anyone interested in fairies. ( )

This popular humor writer now has two children's books. Both feature a girl whose mother is a fairy and father is a mortal. This isn't your typical fairy story however, as she uses a computerized wand and presents herself as a normal woman most of the time. The husband is reminiscent of the early Bewitched television series. He's not too crazy about her using magic.

Kinsella uses humor and suspense effectively and engages a young audience from the first page. My almost six year old granddaughter listened eagerly as I read this book to her in four sittings. This early chapter book is supplemented with many pictures.

If you are a traveler to resorts, you'll chuckle at the scene where two fairy mothers have a wand battle over reserving poolside seats with their towels. There is also a chapter with wacky monkeys that children will love.

All in all, this is a light-hearted romp through modern magic and family dynamics. ( )

This is the second 'Fairy in Waiting' book that I've read by Sopie Kinsella and I find them a bit hit and miss. The second book in the series, 'Fairy In Waiting' is a collection of four short stories about Ella Brook whose Mum is secretly a magical fairy. Ella's Mum is not particularly good at casting spells and her inability to successfully complete a spell leads Ella into many crazy adventures. I love the illustrations in the book, they are light-hearted, energetic, and fun. The story line is geared towards six to eight year olds, but depending on the reader, the actual reading level is better suited for someone a bit older (9-12 year old's). The problem is the story is too young for those readers, so this is likely going to be a book that needs someone to read it aloud. One pro to this is that Kinsella has developed four, high-energy stories which lend themselves well to narration. My favourite part of the book is the easy homemade ice cream recipe at the back! I know adult and child readers alike will enjoy 'magic-ing' up that treat! ( )
