This story attempted many things (Christmas romance, a take on parental and partner's abuse, dealing with the death of a family member during a time which reminds us about them the most, being gay and being a part of a Church) but none of those things were given enough space and it just felt like the author was tipping the surface with each of those.

It's a short read so taking on so many things only made it underdeveloped and robbed it of any possible depth. The relationship was 'insta love'. Jake's whole characterisation was 'good guy with a big cock'. Jake was supposed to be the good man in Dain's life who saved Christmas (and mostly was as this was his only purpose) but it felt super creepy to have him use his policeman skills to learn where Dain lives, etc., etc.

I could take some of it but all of those together just didn't leave enough to hold on to? ( )
