Most of us, according to Andrew Murray, live half-hearted Christian lives. We long to know God and his power, but are frustrated in our efforts.

Murray's book is in two sections. The first, using the Road to Emmaus scripture from Luke, posits that our answer can be found in living in the abiding presence of Christ. There are four ways that Murray feels that God can bring that presence into our lives. We must have faith, believing that He will do what he has promised. We must obey what He tells us. We must cultivate his presence. (This goes beyond prayer and Bible study.) Finally, we must do his work in the world.

The second half of the book deals with the Cross of Christ and its effects in our lives.

I'm glad I read this during Lent. I also found the idea of cultivating the Presence of God one which I want to think about a lot. ( )
