I was looking for more accounts of schizophrenia patients and how they lived with the illness, and also insights into this illness, especially its cause. 3.5 stars reflects how this book didn't quite meet my expectations. I find that Filer did not go in-depth enough into the illness but I am speaking as one who has a loved one who has schizophrenia. Hence, I am already familiar with some of the stuff Filer wrote about. Nevertheless, it is illuminating to know that people can live with the illness for years without treatment (albeit with a lower quality of life) and he did tell me more than what I already know. Hence, the 3.5 stars. ( ) sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

In The Heartland, Nathan Filer, a former mental health nurse, invites us to spend time in the company of some extraordinary people whose lives have been affected by this most strange of human conditions, and to discover their complex, surprising, painful, funny and ultimately relatable stories. Interlacing these first person encounters with a series of meditative essays, he debunks myths, challenges orthodoxy and offers fresh insight into what is traditionally considered to be psychiatry's heartland: the diagnosis and treatment of schizophrenia. Just as The Shock of the Fall did, The Heartland will illuminate our perception and transform lives. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
