( ) Well, it is unfortunate that I let 24 novels in the Richard Jury Mystery Series slip by me until NetGalley allowed me to read an Advanced Cope and introduced me to #25, Old Success. My fault I did not read it on a timely basis. As a newbie to this series, I found the different locales and large cast vexing as well as intriguing. I will enjoy going back to book #1 to learn more about characters that customarily show up in this series and learn more of their relationships and interconnections. Although NetGalley doesn't allow 1/2's this book is a solid 3 1/2 for me. Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and author for allowing me to read the advanced copy and I apologize for the delay in my review. Three shooting, three different locations but is there a connection between them. Inspectors Jury and Macalvie, with the help of ex-police Inspector Brownell investigate. I have in the past read a few of this series but not for sometime. The story felt like it was connected to past arcs in the series and therefore I feel it could not be read as a standalone. The story itself didn't really caught my imagination, nor my interest. There seemed to be too many names introduced which were really of no importance, and at times I found it difficult to know who was talking, which may be the fault of the formatting of this ARC. A NetGalley Book Nothing like a travel story with a murder and kidnapping. So many characters in this so many deaths and the words of children may uncover the truth. Three detectives race to find the killer of Manon Vinet, but a lacking motive hinders the case. In the meantime, two more bodies are discovered. Is there a connection? Martha Grimes brings in the heavy artillery to entrap the killer. Martha Grimes builds suspense and creates memorable characters and psychological insight into each of the characters. Aunt Agatha and Vivian play minor roles in this caper. When will the next Richard Jury mystery appear? Years ago I enjoyed many of Martha Grimes' books featuring Richard Jury which bore the names of pubs. I decided to pick up the latest installment in the library. This book just never quite worked. I loved the island setting, but the author didn't really use it to create atmosphere. The book's focus on horses seemed to lend itself better to a different setting. Then the different threads didn't work all that well together. I figured out "whodunit" early on, but the book jumped around too much, making it difficult for readers to follow. Let's hope the author's next effort improves. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

"When the body of a French woman washes up on a wild inlet off the Cornish coast, Brian Macalvie, divisional commander with the Devon-Cornwall police is called in. Who could have killed this beautiful tourist, the only visible footprints nearby belonging to the two little girls who found her? While Macalvie reexamines the scene in the Scilly Islands, inspector Richard Jury-twenty miles away on Land's End-is at The Old Success pub, sharing a drink with the legendary former CID detective Tom Brownell, a man renowned for solving every case he undertook. Except one. In the days following the mysterious slaying of the Parisian tourist, two other murders take place: first, a man is shot at a country estate, then a holy duster turns up murdered in Exeter Cathedral. Macalvie, Jury, and Brownell set out to discover whether these three killings, though very different in execution, are connected"-- No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
