Very reminiscent of the spider writing words in the web in the aptly named Charlotte’s Web, though here it’s chickens scratching their words into the dirt. This is a cute idea since chickens scratch in the dirt with their feet all the time to dig up their food so you could easily see something like that being the way they’d write if they did so. And in this book, they certainly do! And multiple times! They make their farm family famous while also communicating their needs that haven’t been met in the way they’d like (also reminiscent of Click. Clack, Moo, Cows that Type).

The older style of illustration was also refreshing to me. Overall I wouldn’t consider it a favorite or particularly eventful or as having stood out, which is why I leave it at 3 stars, but again, it was a cute story! ( )
