I really loved the setting and found the characters to be super compelling. I also liked how this world was build and the mystery was super engaging. I wish this book had a bit more action throughout the novel. I think this def a slow burn novel and really did like the development of the characters. I think this was a great starter novel and I am super excited to see where book 2 goes. 3.5 stars I liked it, but I think because I fell into a reading slump soon after starting this (not the book's fault), it affected my rating. I do plan on continuing with the series so I'll reread this one before I go onto the next one and see what my rating is then. Another thing that affected my rating is the major instalove trope. I like the characters, but can we please ditch the instalove trope already? Edit: This is my second time reading this, and I'm bumping up my rating to 4 stars. I do think because I was starting to fall into a reading slump the last time I read this, it effected my rating a little bit. I do like Renée's writing style, but I know it won't appeal to everyone. It is very descriptive, so if that's not your thing you might want to skip this. I love the atmosphere and tone in this book. It's got that gothic, supernatural feel. I honestly don't understand anyone who says there are no vampires in this book or that they only appear at the very end. Just because a character doesn't come right out and say "hey I'm vampire," doesn't mean you can't figure out who the vampires in this book are. Also, just because we don't see them engaging in what we think are typically "vampire activities" (aside from the killer), doesn't mean they're not there. I enjoyed this book, my only two issues were the pacing, especially in the middle, and it still feels like instalove to me. Other than that, I think it's well done and sets up nicely for the sequel, which I can't wait to start today. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
