I absolutely love a good "descent into madness" story, and The Yellow Wallpaper was done brilliantly. The other stories are good, but I think they lose a bit of relevance in the modern day. They were forward thinking and feminist for having a story where the wife/mother/etc has a job and provides for herself/her family. Obviously a big deal at the time, but a bit less impactful nowadays. That being said, still well written and generally enjoyable to read. Just not "mind-blowing" like I'm sure they were at the time. Overall not one of the worst pieces I've had to read or analyze. Often viewed as a strong work for the feminist fiction movement it deals with themes of insanity, depression, and entrapment. It portrays the horrors of how madness used to be treated and the helplessness of women to make their own choices at the time. For such a short work it has a lot of layers and yet still manages to be a moving, easy read.
