Arthur is assigned to complete a science project for his science fair but he seems to have trouble coming up with an idea on his own. Rather than looking up new ideas, he waits until the last minute and plagiarises his father's old project. The story ends with Arthur telling the truth but nothing further is discussed about science or about Arthur's own idea for a project. ( )

The book Arthur's Science Fair Trouble describes how Arthur tries to solve a problem but it wasn't the best decision. Arthur has to do a science fair project, but all of the good ideas are taken. Arthur learns a life lesson when uses his father’s old solar system project from 3rd grade and tries to use it for his own science fair project. This book helps the reader understand that you do not learn science by stealing someone's project. I give this book three out of five stars because Marc Brown does a good job of providing students with age appropriate vocabulary. The story is a little short and does not provide any science facts. I would use this book to teach kids the valuable lesson and it could be used for inferences. I could also use this book before my kids were going to participate in a science fair. ( )

The book starts out with Arthur and his friends discussing the science fair and what each of their projects are going to be (this portion could be used to teach about the science fair itself). It goes on to show Arthur winning the blue ribbon for something he didn't do. This could be a time to talk about scientific integrity as well as integrity as a whole! Later on they'll learn about Watson and Crick and they will have some prior knowledge as to why what happened with them was so terrible. ( )
