(easy, picture) A family decides to leave the city for the country. The family takes the plane, but the family dog must be shipped in a crate via train. Along the way, the dog tries to decipher the many new noises he hears. There is much interactive oppurtunity with this book. You could either invite the children to make the noises along with you and/or guess what they are. ( )

This book was made in 1940, and I still love it. The illustrations are done only in yellow, blue, brown, and green, and though they are simple, I think they capture the countryside in an innocent and fun way. I think this would be a good book to read to younger children, and have them tell the reader what animals or things are making the specific sounds.
