This beautifully illustrated book depicts the story of the first female film director Alice Guy-Blaché. She was so interested in seeing how films worked and how she could make them better. Even though she was a young woman she kept working and getting better throughout her journey. Alice is an amazing example of how anyone can follow their dreams even when people tell you no. ( )

I personally enjoyed Alice Blache’s biography. Despite her hardship throughout her life, she never gave up on her talent and hard work. This well-organized biography starts off with Alice Blache as a young girl who had her head stuck in a book. It was until the terrible catastrophe of her family lives being ruined and her papa’s death that she realized she needed to find work. After Alice was given the job at a camera company, she found out about “The Great Discovery.” She used her imagination to advance the films to make movies come alive with color and sound. Alice took a great adventure as she married a young cameraman and sailed off to America. When she arrived in America, she thought folks In America was stranger and it was weird that they haven't heard of her and as matter of fact thought a guy by the name of Thomas Edison invented moving pictures. She came to her realization that she had to make her movies more exciting with laughter and surprises romance and adventures, thrills and heartaches. Alice eventually went through a severe test of the closing of her business, her husband leaving her, and she moved back to France. Alice didn’t let anything bring her down. It wasn’t until after her death she received the proper recognition she deserved as a moving picture filmmaker. ( )
