Updated 3/2/23: I reread this so I could recall the story better before I start on [book:Wind Daughter|54925754] and I found it much more enjoyable the second time around. Why? I can't say for certain, but my feeling is that the unique variations on multiple other folktales is what makes it interesting. Even though I'd read it before four years prior, I found myself wondering what would happen next... Accordingly, I changed my rating from 3 to 4 stars! Original review 3/12/19: Not my favorite version of this fairytale, but certainly a unique amalgamation of the existing folklore with some new twists. A mixture of many old fairytales, Echo North is a book about fighting against evil with the power of the oldest magic on earth- Love. Though cliche at times, this book has lovely imagery and reminded me of quite a few stories I grew up with. I loved how the character became the care taker of a house alongside her wolf friend to become lover. At times the plot was a bit confusing, but that didn’t deter me too much from enjoying this book. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Echo Alkaev's safe and carefully structured world falls apart when her father leaves for the city and mysteriously disappears. Believing he is lost forever, Echo is shocked to find him half-frozen in the winter forest six months later, guarded by a strange talking wolf-the same creature who attacked her as a child. The wolf presents Echo with an ultimatum: if she lives with him for one year, he will ensure her father makes it home safely. But there is more to the wolf than Echo realizes. In his enchanted house beneath a mountain, each room must be sewn together to keep the home from unraveling, and something new and dark and strange lies behind every door. When centuries-old secrets unfold, Echo discovers a magical library full of books-turned-mirrors, and a young man named Hal who is trapped inside of them. As the year ticks by, the rooms begin to disappear and Echo must solve the mystery of the wolf's enchantment before her time is up-otherwise Echo, the wolf, and Hal will be lost forever. I would seriously recommend Echo North to my GR friends, though (especially if you're into fantasy and/or romance like I am!).
