There are certainly more up-to-date books out there on the subject of personal learning. As long as you skim over the goofy self-help style anecdotes (which are about 2/3 of the book, alas), and drastically change the "exercises" so they'll actually be useful, then you'll probably get something out of this. I found some nice tips on creating a personal learning space / atmosphere in chapter 8, and some nice ideas about creating goals. But overall, I would skip this book in favor of something that stays on topic and gives more concrete advice. ( )

This is a great book. I started reading at chapter 5 which explained why I often start in the middle of a book while other people start at the beginning. It also instructed me to skip through the book using the table of contents and index to figure out what other chapters would be helpful. I did that and learned all sorts of helpful stuff about how I learn best and how to set up a program of learning and evaluate it. Much of this was what I've already done, but now I think I can be more organized about it. I recommend this to all LTers who want to be more systematic about their reading. ( )
