I'm not behind all of the changes happening at DC (*sigh* Bendis), but, after reading two of the 'New Age of Heroes' titles, well, I'm half and half. This one is the 'I most definitely liked it' half. It's an interesting new team. They're thrown together in the Dark Multiverse, and then when they get back to our world they find that they cannot be more than about a mile apart from each other. Mr. Terrific goes about fixing this (and so many other things), but, even as he does that, the team bounces from place to place trying to put out fires in each of the team member's lives. There's an interesting new character of Linnya, and they go to her home planet. There was also Metamorpho, and his story is intense. We haven't seen them go and try to fix Plastic Man's problems yet, but, hey, I didn't totally hate Eel here, so, that's a plus. And, of course, there's Michael Holt aka Mr. Terrific. And he was the reason (and will be) I wanted to read this in the first place. I definitely look forward to whatever happens next in the story. It was a fun TPB. I received this book via Netgalley thanks to DC Entertainment. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
Pertenece a las seriesThe Terrifics (1)
A billionaire genius. A shape-shifting wise guy. An intangible alien. An elemental powerhouse. At first glance, these four heroes have nothing in common. But when Plastic Man, Phantom Girl, Metamorpho and Mr. Terrific are thrown together by fate, they become something greater than the sum of its parts...something truly terrific! Unleashed by a tragic accident, supernatural forces have bound this unlikely team together, stranding them deep in the nightmare realm known as the Dark Multiverse. Now they must learn to work together to find a cure for their condition, a pathway home...and a missing hero who just might hold the key to it all. But something even deeper than their shared plight binds them together. In each of these incredible characters, the spirt of exploration and the hope for a better tomorrow burns so brightly that not even the black magic of the Dark Multiverse can snuff it out! Join the journey in The Terrifics Vol. 1: Meet the Terrifics. The all-star creative team of Jeff Lemire, Ivan Reis, Evan "Doc" Shaner and Joe Bennett usher in a new age of heroes with the most talked-about team book of the year!. REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
Summary:
Simon Stagg has taken over all of Terry Holt’s patents and businesses while he was away saving the universe. Coming to confront him about it places Holt on a collision course with destiny. If destiny were a malleable former criminal, a tragic man trapped in an elemental golem, and when they venture to find what’s causing their troubles an intangible forbear of a distant future superhero. From runaway superweapons, to elemental pocket dimensions, to a missing alternate reality hero, the Terrifics have their work cut out for them.
...and Element Dog.

Why this book:
I’ve always liked Mr Terrific and Metamorpho.

The Feel:
I guess since Marvel wasn’t doing The Fantastic Four, DC decided it would. Derivative, true. But Marvel cold shouldering the FF property because of movie deals gave them an opening.
The FF riff is so strong.
Dr Dread...we get it. You’re riffing on the FF.
Favorite Character:
I like all these characters. Even the cardboard cutout ones, who haven’t evolved character-wise in 50 years, like old man Stagg, Sapphire, and Java.
Element Dog is the coolest.
Favorite Scene / Quote/Concept:
Love the giant dead carcass floating in space like an asteroid that they landed on.
The town changed into Metamorphopolis.
Meh / PFFT Moments:
Dr Dread...Dr Dread...that’s a bad 70s Dial H for Hero villain name.
The Unexpected:
Loved the 4-panel character focus storyboards used here.
Missed Opportunity:
Isn’t it way passed comic book time for Java to swear allegiance to Vandal Savage? Caveman, survival of the fittest, and all that.

Last Page Sound:
Interesting.
Author Assessment:
If I see it, I’ll pick up Volume 2.
Editorial Assessment:
Could have done with someone to tap the brakes on the FF pastiche, just a bit.
