This book presents a summary of the history of the Texas mission / presidio complex commonly known as La Bahía, with special emphasis on the roads connecting these establishments to other Spanish Colonial locations. Diaries of Spanish and French travelers on the roads from La Bahia to San Antonio and other Spanish presidios and missions in East Texas and along the Rio Grande form the principle basis for locating the roads of that time. Pertinent segments of these fascinating diaries are included. Extensive map images are used to reinforce the written descriptions of the roads in use from the 1690s to the mid-1800s.
