irritante il fatto che gli investigatori tengano palesemente per sé alcuni elementi nei capitoli finali e, quando vengono alfine spiattellati nella soluzione finale ciò non avviene con l'eleganza che avrebbe il Poirot della Christie ma in maniera abborracciata e frettolosa.
chi legge gialli da più di 30 anni e si è formato sui grandi classici è allenato a tenere a mente ogni singola informazione che sembra buttata là casualmente nel testo, ma questo sforzo alla fine va a discapito dello scioglimento finale che risulta estraneo e quasi incomprensibile.
in questo romanzo, come già in altri, Carr si cimenta in una sorta di "camera chiusa all'aperto" ossia con un corpo in una landa desolata senza impronte o tracce attorno e la costruzione risulta abbastanza interessante.
