"This first compendium collects both Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World color edition story pages in one massive volume for easier bingeing. Never leave your house again! Scott Pilgrim wants Ramona Flowers to be his girlfriend. However, she's got baggage in the form of seven evil exes, all of whom Scott must defeat to win her heart! The first two are Matthew Patel (and his demon hipster girls) and Lucas Lee (movie star famous for ... skateboarding?). Can Scott focus long enough to take them out?A decade and a half later, Scott Pilgrim is still taking on the world. The New York Times bestselling series and basis for the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is now available in three new softcover editions!"--Provided by publisher.… (más)

Still hilarious.

I only read this because I heard Michael Cera is going to be in a Scott Pilgrim movie. I think it took me maybe 40 minutes, which isn't the most satisfying reading experience. It just gets going and it's over! But it's hip and funny and I'll probably keep reading the series.

My only complaint (besides the brevity) is that most of the characters look so much alike it's hard to tell them apart. They all have the same face. Scott totally looks like a girl, which is weird because I think Michael Cera totally looks like a girl in the ads for his new movie Year One.

P.S. A sweet high school girl named Knives? Crazy. ( )

Blasphemy, I know, but so far, I like the movie better. A friend summed it up well- in the books, Scott seems like a wise fool, but in the movie, he seems like a plain old fool, and a big part of me feels it's necessary for him to be a regular fool for the story to work properly. ( )

The art is good.

It's a problem when you write a story about a character whose friends/peers/companions are all much more fascinating than the POV character. I would much rather have read a book series starring Ramona, Wallace, Knives, Scott's sister or even Envy. But we get stuck with Scott. I feel zero sympathy for Scott and care little about his fate. He's actually described on wiki as a "23-year-old Canadian slacker". I understand that he wants to be part of the band, although his promotional and practice efforts for it don't seem that great so I question his ambitions there. If he's so great at fighting and seems to enjoy it, why doesn't he teach/train, at least for spare change? A lot of people seem to know about and respect his reputation. It shouldn't be hard to get students. On top of being apparently the laziest human being in the story, he's kind of really an ass. I hate how he doubletimes Knives and Ramona. Oh, we're supposed to feel bad that he's lost interest in Knives and wants to date Ramona and can't break up with Knives because he has no spine. Yeah I don't care. Get over yourself, Scott. It's nice that other characters reproach him for this but like... it was a stupid plotline? If the sole reason Knives is in the story is to make Scott have a funny intro because he's "dating a high schooler" and then to have her fight other women cause she's "The Asian", I just... ugh. I agree with Wallace, Scott DOESN'T deserve you, Knives. And what kind of a name is KNIVES?

I don't think it's funny that Ramona's ex's feel so territorial that each newbie has to fight them to earn the right to date her. It's really creepy. Why can't we just have a story where Ramona beats these people up? The ultimate reveal is just sad and frustrating.

Ultimately it was a rather boring and anti-climactic series about characters I cared little to nothing for. The film took the relatively intricate relationships (because ha, there's no plot) and truncated them to a point where a decent amount doesn't make sense and it just looks bizarre onscreen (seriously, what is the obsession with live-action? At least make the movie adaptation of a COMIC about VIDEO GAMES something with plain old ANIMATION).

If you want to read an interesting manga about the difficulties of different kinds of relationships, including various romantic ones, read "Fruits Basket". That dealt well with trauma, anxiety, abusive relationships, and lots of other plotlines and the story is all-around better. You want cool fight scenes, read "Fullmetal Alchemist". You want something about music? "Full Moon" was pretty neat and also a relatively short series. ( )

This was kind of one-note, not what I was expecting. It didn't have much depth. Oh well.
