All it takes is one: one coral gamete to start a colony in the ocean, one person to make a difference in the world, one idea to help us heal the earth. The ongoing conservation efforts to save and rebuild the world's coral reefs—with hammer and glue, and grafts of newly grown coral—are the living legacy of environmental scientist Ken Nedimyer, founder of the Coral Restoration Foundation.
In telling the story of this sea conservation pioneer and marine life protector, Kate Messner and Matthew Forsythe create a stunning tribute to the wonders of nature and the power of human hope—a power even the smallest readers can access in their quest to aid our extraordinary planet.

This informational picture book was as brilliant as the title insinuates. You can tell that the author really finds what she is writing about to be very important. The books gives true facts to share the importance of protecting the environment, more specifically the coral reefs of the world. You can use this story to teach young children to appreciate the world around them and to take care of wildlife. The facts in this book were also very unique. There were many moments where I personally gained knowledge that I did not previously have. I also like the fact that a girl and her father are the main characters because it made me think about my relationship with my own father. It gave a sense of protecting the environment all together. These illustrations in this book were also about as beautiful as the real world! ( )

Great book about regrowing the coral reef. Informational and educational and engaging. I would definitely love to read this to my students in the hopes that they learn something of importance from this book. ( )

To begin, I love nonfiction stories because the fact that it is true makes it that much better! Ken Nedimyer was passionate about aquatic life since he was young. Him and his daughter dedicated their time to plant new coral reef next to dead coral reef in order to revive them. He then creates a foundation to further his involvement in aquatic life. I did not know who Ken Nedimyer was, but now I always remember him. Such an insightful and fun book. The illustrations were beautiful. ( )
