"Dual layers of text explain how and why diverse animals make homes specific to their needs. From the turtle's shell, the beaver's lodge, or the seal's cave, each animal requires a special kind of home."--

This is a sweet book that shares about different animals and the homes you might find them in. There are also some great talking points in the book regarding littering ("satin bowerbird makes a home of anything blue" with plastics and bottle caps pictured). You can also talk with children about what "home" means to them before reading this book, and then after, to discuss how a home may not look like we may typically think!

Great book to introduce animals and diversity of nature. It is simple and easy to read and understand. It teaches children were animals live. Some live on land, on streams, in oceans, or on other animals. The books has a lot of variety describing animal’s homes, and it’s beautifully illustrated. This book will bring out the child’s curiosity about the animals mentioned in the book. Some animals they may already know about, and some will be new to them. I enjoyed that the book was easy to read and had larger less descripted text. At the end of the book, children will find descriptions animals, where they live and can be found and what they feed on. Very informative book. ( )

Did you know there are kangaroos that live in trees? And fish that make their homes out of bubbles? A House in the Sky is the latest book from Steve Jenkins, an author who specializes in nonfiction picture books about science. While I think this is a good book for introducing a unit on animals and their habitats, it wasn't the most compelling of the science books I've read this week. Although this book claims that it is filled with "uncommon" homes, it includes a fair amount of animals and homes that children will likely be familiar with, with more uncommon animals and home sprinkled throughout.
