This is about the story of a mother and child immigrating to a new country. It talks about the mistakes made and how she just wanted what best for her dream (her child) I thought that this book was super encouraging to her culture and the people in similar situations to her. A story on an immigrant mother who just moved with her child from their home to a new place. How they made mistakes, or didn't understand how things worked at first so they felt out of place. Until they made it to the library and learned to read, write and speak. And found their place again? Elementary Dreamers, written and illustrated by Yuyi Morales. The beautifully illustrated book is about a mother who knows little English when she arrives in San Francisco from Mexico, and finds refuge in the public library, and in children’s literature. As she spends time exploring in the library, and learns the language and customs in the unfamiliar American culture, she realizes she can tell her story too, and express her thoughts and ideas through art. Together with her son, she starts to make books of her own. This autobiography about a multi-award-winning author and illustrator is beautiful to behold in story and form. It is sure to please audiences of all ages.
Dreamers is a powerful statement that immigrants don’t leave their languages and cultures behind while they explore new worlds.
