In a small kingdom that depends on the trade of caravans, an old king dies and leaves his ruling robe to his younger son, passing over the young prince's older half-brother. The latter schemes, stealing the robe, cutting it into pieces, and throwing it to the winds; but the people of the kingdom find the pieces and stitch them back together, using fabrics that are precious to them to fill in the gaps. The robe is returned to the young prince, and the elder prince flees, never to be seen or heard from again. Kindness and community triumph over scheming for power. Inhabitants of the kingdom have many skin tones; the young prince is darker, the elder one lighter skinned. (
