So, at the beginning of this book I have to say I was tired of the Pete/Jess on-again/off-again relationship and just wanted the author to decide once and for all if they were going to be a couple or go their separate ways--I'm glad to say that she does seem to have resolved that.

For me, the book didn't really get going until partway through when the truck got rammed leaving Ned, Shae, and Jess out in the wilderness with the rest of the team needing to search for them. Yes, I appreciated Ned coming to Montana to see Shae and that Sam and Willow were finally ready to tie the knot--but the rest just felt like it drew the story out to fill a page count.

Apparently this is the final book (or at least for a while) in the Montana Rescue series--though the author hinted she might check in on these characters in the future and I hope she does. Perhaps they will appear as supporting characters in a another series she writes or maybe she'll come up with another story in the future to highlight them.

I'd really like to follow Ned's journey through Navy basic training and BUDs--interesting that he's entering the SEALS just as his brother left them. It would have been nice to see both brothers working together. I'm still not sure how he qualified to be a SEAL given all his injuries, but . . . we will see. ( )

Wait For Me is the final installment in the Montana Rescue series by Susan May Warren. Like the rest of the novels in this series, Wait For Me was well-written, fast-paced, and held my attention. This particular novel was stuffed with emotional angst in addition to suspense and mystery. I liked that the author quietly sewed in a theme of leaning in and trusting in God's love for His children. She held true to the dichotomy that while God's love will ultimately preserve us, it doesn't always prevent us from hurt and injury. Still, God's love is presented as a source of hope and reason for faith.

I recommend reading the entire series before reading Wait for Me because Jess and Pete's relationship develops substantially in other books. The series long saga of Esme/Shae is finally resolved and the main characters from prior books play roles in Wait for Me. Readers who have enjoyed the Montana Rescue series by Susan May Warren will enjoy reading the final riveting installment. My personal favorites are Wild Montana Skies (Book 1) and Troubled Waters (Book 4). I recommend the entire series to fans of Christian romance. Each novel is filled with intense danger, growing faith, and delicious romance.

Wait for Me is book 6 in the Montana Rescue series by Susan May Warren. I did not read any of the previous 5 books and I am wondering now if the book would have been better had I read them. The book can be read without reading the others but there are a lot of seemingly developed characters and backstory that one might need to know. The author does a good job of filling in the questions by adding a lot of pertinent backstory right in the book which is helpful. The story is high energy for sure. Once I got to about 40% in it picked up and was hard to put down. I finished the last half in an afternoon. The beginning started a little rocky for me, but this could have been because I didn't read the other books. I had trouble keeping all the people straight. The snippets about each character at the beginning were short and kind of quick moving so it was hard to separate them all and remember who was who. I was worried I wouldn't be able to finish the book. I started to catch on though and kept going... and I was glad I did. I did have some trouble with some disjointed sections. For example, when the car leaves the wedding and they all of a sudden are getting plowed off the road? Where did that come from? It seemed totally out of left field. It might have been less jarring had there been some kind of bridge into it... maybe the occupants of the car thought they were being followed which led to a little bit of a chase or something. Instead it was so sudden it was a bit unnatural. The other part that I struggled with was when they would jump back in time and tell some backstory. There was no differentiation. I had to go back and reread to find out what was going on. It might have been helpful if there was something there to warn the reader that they were hopping back in time. The Christian references were subtle but timely. Overall the story was great. The details were well written and the characters were developed well. I would love to go back and read the other books in the series when I have time.

I received a copy of this book from Revell. This has in no way influenced my review. I was under no compulsion to write a positive review. All thoughts are my own. ( )

For five books, Susan May Warren has taken readers on some wild rides through this Montana Rescue team (and we haven’t stayed in Montana the entire series either). But, with the series finale, it’s appropriate that the entire gang has returned to where the series started.

Another thing that has occurred throughout this series is the rollercoaster of Pete Brooks and Jess Tagg—the on-again-off-again couple has appeared in all of the books and things were left up in the air in the Storm Front.

If the emotional ups and downs don’t get to you, Jess’s wild trek through the Montana wilderness and Pete’s desperate search to find her will definitely get your heart pumping with the elements, injuries, and someone hunting the three people lost.

Even if most of us will never experience working a rescue operation, Warren drops readers right in the middle, making them connect with this team and joining the adventure with them. I will miss the PEAK team but can’t wait to see what adventures are next!

"But perhaps that was what love looked like too. Not perfect, but raw and jagged and terrifying and wounding...and beautiful and overwhelming and completely, wonderfully out of her control. Because love gave all."

What an incredible conclusion to this epic series! As always, Susan May Warren packs in action, suspense, harrowing brushes with death and disaster, and quite a few twists and turns in the story to make you stay up way past your bedtime reading....and thinking, just one more page....
And the raw emotional intensity of the main characters is completely heart-wrenching and real. If you've read the previous books in the series, you've been impatiently waiting for Pete and Jess to have their story. Even if you haven't read any of the previous books, this particular book can be read as a stand alone because there are many flashbacks that make up the bulk of Pete and Jess' story that even the die-hard followers of the series have not be privy to in the other books.

Pete is a changed man and gone are his wild ways. He's still heroic, protective to a fault, and passionate but he's completely undone and broken and wounded by Jess who has returned to her glamorous lifestyle in NYC. Jess doesn't know who she is or what she wants and feels trapped. Felipe, Jess' previous fiance, actually plays a bigger role in the story than I thought he would and became quite likable even though he's competing against Pete for Jess. And then there are Ned and Shae. Ned is the younger version of Pete and so incredibly heroic. Shae has finally returned home to Mercy Falls, Montana not just to attend Ben and Kacey's wedding reception but also to find closure in her run from the man who killed her previous boyfriend. Each of these characters must learn to fight their fears to conquer them but also learn to ask for help from their friends, family, and God in conquering these fears. What a satisfying finale to an adrenaline-packed series full of rescue, grace, hope, love, joy, and faith.

I received a copy of the book from Baker Publishing Group via LibraryThing and was under no obligation to post a review. All comments and opinions are solely my own. ( )
