Fiction. Mystery. HTML:

Trailblazing Constance's hard-won job as deputy sheriff is on the line in Miss Kopp Just Won't Quit, the fourth installment of Amy Stewart's Kopp Sisters series. After a year on the job, New Jersey's first female deputy sheriff has collared criminals, demanded justice for wronged women, and gained notoriety nationwide for her exploits. But on one stormy night, everything falls apart. While transporting a woman to an insane asylum, Deputy Kopp discovers something deeply troubling about her story. Before she can investigate, another inmate bound for the asylum breaks free and tries to escape. In both cases, Constance runs instinctively toward justice. But the fall of 1916 is a high-stakes election year, and any move she makes could jeopardize Sheriff Heath's futureâ??and her own. Although Constance is not on the ballot, her controversial career makes her the target of political attacks. With wit and verve, book-club favorite Amy Stewart brilliantly conjures the life and times of the real Constance Kopp to give us this "unforgettable, not-to-be messed-with heroine" (Marie Claire) under fire in Miss Kopp Just Won't Quit.… (más)

I feel like the intensity in the series ramps up in this book. The stakes for Constance's main prisoner are higher (involuntary commitment to an insane asylum for an unspecified amount of time by her husband), the elections are in full swing (for Sheriff and for Congress), and in the background, the war is starting to show a larger impact. Unfortunately, Constance just cannot keep out of the newspapers, and the political implications of her appointment are starting to show their consequences. Heartbreaking in places, but ultimately incredibly effective storytelling that keeps the tale alive. What will happen next? I'm on the edge of my seat, and I can't wait for the next installment.

Another interesting and fun installment of the Kopp Sisters! Constance has excelled in her duties as a Deputy in early 1900s Patterson NJ. But there's plenty of resentment about a female working for the Sheriff's Department. When Deputy Kopp gets involved advocating for a woman wrongfully committed to an insane asylum, her opposition seeks to discredit both her and the Sheriff, who is in the middle of a campaign for Congress. The political scene becomes filled with lies and innuendo. Based on the real life events of Constance Kopp, researched and noted by the autho ( )

This book felt like an ending and I'm so glad that the next book is already announced because I'm not ready to say goodbye to the Kopp sisters quite yet.

There are two main storylines here. The first is that of a wrongly committed housewife to a mental hospital by her husband. The second is the upcoming election and the contested sheriff's seat. The first was more of what we're used to in previous books and is nicely done but doesn't have much suspense attached to it. The election... Whoa boy. I was at the edge of my seat.

And the spectre of war is even stronger here. Given the ending, even more so. I really need book five now... ( )

I always enjoy these books; they're soothing reads in many ways, as Stewart doesn't try to over dramatise or create more suspense than history dictates. (This series is based on the real events and life of Constance Kopp.) This 4th instalment surrounds the election for Sheriff, a pivotal point for Constance, because the sitting sheriff - the one that was bold enough to hire a woman - has hit his term limit and can run.

It's a bittersweet story with an interesting ending. I look forward to finding out how the Kopp sisters fare. ( )

This is the third entry into a series about Constance Kopp, the first female Under Sheriff in the U.S. It is based upon real characters and incidents, but fictionalized. Deputy Kopp is facing changes as Sheriff Heath, ty he man who hired her, was running for Congress since his tenure as sheriff was about over. The man running for sheriff is a prosecuting attorney with no experience in law enforcement. He also had no use for a female deputy. Constance's younger sister (actually Constance's daughter) works as a seamstress designing costumes for movies. The older sister Norma runs the family farm and is obsessed with carrier pigeons. This story was slow paced and did not hold my attention well. I'm not sure if I eill read the next installment. ( )
