Who Cares about Particle Physics? is probably the best book I've read that explains particle physics (and even concepts such as dark matter and supersymmetry) in terms that are easily understandable. I've attempted to read books that claim to explain these topics to laypeople, and I with a PhD in engineering could not muddle through them. This one actually hit the nail on the head.

The author (whom I've met and is pretty awesome) makes a great case for the importance of theoretical physics research, how it is accomplished on a large scale at CERN, and why diversity is important in STEM fields, physics in particular.

If you're interested in learning more about particle physics, are eager to understand what the deal about the Higgs Boson is, or just plain-old like science, this is a book for you. ( )
