"From the author of It's Always the Husband comes a riveting new suspense novel about privilege, power, and what happens when we let ambition take control. When twin sisters Rose and Bel Enright enroll in The Odell School, a prestigious New Hampshire boarding school, it seems like the opportunity of a lifetime. But the sisters could not be more different. The school brings out a rivalry between them that few ever knew existed. And the school itself has a dark underbelly: of privileged kids running unchecked and uninhibited; of rituals and traditions that are more sinister than they seem; of wealth and entitlement that can only lead to disaster. For Sarah Donovan, wife of an ambitious teacher who is determined to rise through the ranks, Odell also seems like the best thing that could happen to their small family. But how well does she really know her husband? What lengths will he go to to achieve his goals? And when one dark night ends in murder, who is guilty, who knows the truth, and who has been in on it all along? SHE WAS THE QUIET ONE. Because murderers are almost never who you expect. In a novel full of twists, turns, and dark secrets, Michele Campbell once again proves her skill at crafting intricately spun and completely compelling plots"--… (más)

Barely a mystery and I hated all the characters. ( )

This could be a typical young adult novel with the characters behaving in expected ways leading to the expected ending. And it was, but I feel Michele Campbell did a great job keeping the characters from falling into this category. ( )

Twin sisters Rose and Bel Enright couldn't be more different. Rose is serious about her education, she's quiet and isn't as pretty as her sister. Bel is a wild child who runs with a bad crowd at their new school. The Odell School is a prestigious New Hampshire boarding school. This was their chance to start anew after leaving California but nothing's gotten better between the sisters. In fact, things have gotten much worse. Especially when one of them is accused of murdering the other.

Sarah Donovan is the wife of a handsome, charismatic, ambitious teacher who is determined to rise through the ranks. She's trying her best to be happy and supportive but she knows her husband well enough to notice the warning signs. Doesn't she? But surely he's not involved in the murder of a student. Right?

I was sucked in from page one. I love stories about boarding schools with all their drama and secrets and coverups. Which twin was killed?! And why? Does it have anything to do with a certain handsome teacher? Could one twin murder the other? Could another student have done it? There were a few different possibilities that kept me guessing. I found part one very compelling and suspenseful. I was so absorbed in the story that I felt like I was there. But once I got into part two my interest started to wane. I found it repetitious, it dragged on and on. Some things were convenient. And I didn't really care for the ending. Overall though I did enjoy this book.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for the invite to read this ARC through Netgalley. ( )

Bel and Rose Enright are fraternal twins who recently lost their mother. They move in with their grandmother until she sends them to Odell Academy, a prestigious boarding school in New England. Rose is instantly enthralled as she is a studious and serious girl. Bel is not happy to be there, until she meets Heath Donovan, her advisor and dorm parent. Bel also gets in with a bad crowd, led by Darcy and Tessa. They encourage Bel to do things that are against school policy. Bel goes along, but due to her infatuation with Heath Donovan, and his reciprocity of this adoration, she gets off easily. Sarah Donovan confronts her husband Heath, but he denies any infidelity.
One of the twins turns up dead, and now the police are investigating. You are left to wonder which of the twins is dead for a good part of the novel. Once you discover who died, it is not difficult to know who killed her. But, what is surprising is the epilogue, and who was pulling some of the strings.
I thought the book could have been a bit shorter, but I really enjoyed it.

As with her first book, It’s Always The Husband, Ms. Campbell weaves a tale that will have you swearing you know what’s going to happen, and feeling pretty proud of yourself. Then, in the last chapter, throw it all out the window. Love the writing style, and detail. This book had great characters....at times you wanted to shake them, yell at them, hug them. So appreciate the details in her writing.

Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC. All opinions are my own. ( )
