NO EASY ESCAPE Chased across Amsterdam by a human-trafficking ring, social advocate Kayla Brooks refuses to help them recapture Mercy, the young girl she rescued from their clutches. Even if they've already abducted her father as a hostage...and wouldn't hesitate to kill her. There's only one man Kayla can turn to for help: her ex-fiancé's brooding older brother, Levi Cummings. Though Kayla relies on the handsome former army intelligence officer's experience, fully trusting Levi seems impossible after she helped send his brother to jail. But as they struggle to save her father, protect Mercy and outmaneuver the traffickers, Kayla and Levi's bond transcends pure survival. Armed with only a few clues about her father's location, though, Kayla and Levi must bring down the crime ring...or lose all their lives. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

This was the second Lisa Harris novel I've read in a week and I must admit, I was enjoying it so much I realised I couldn't wait to read more of her stories! I decided to seek out more through my local library who happily had some of them in their card catalogue.
What I loved the most about this story is how it was psychologically edgy - Harris put you straight through the heart of the story by anchouring you emotionally to Kayla and her mission to seek out her father and the missing girl. The entire story hinged on her success which is what made it feel harrowingly realistic - the fact that this novel focused on one of the most talked about issues of the 21st Century was most compelling - as it placed us on the side of the caseworkers and non-profit workers who were attempting to go into the field in order to save lives.
From the moment we enter into this dramatic Romantic Suspense, you can't truly pull your eyes or your heart off the pages. Kayla's character was written with such a soulful honesty - she truly loves the work she is doing to help the girls' she is trying to save from the industry which has a hold on them but at the same time, she never realised that sometimes the risks you take yourself in life can affect others in your life as well. Kayla would do anything in her power to help the girls' including setting up a network of safe houses and persons they can trust in case they needed to seek more assistance past resuming their lives. It was a gutting story from the stand-point that no one in the story itself was 'in a safe place' for very long - there were too many dangers lurking in shadows seeking to erase everyone's sense of security. Part of what made this a suspenseful read is how Harris never pulls back the veil between the unknown dangers lurking out of sight and the heart-pulsing drama which never takes a pause between chapters!
By the time Levi entered the scene, the adrenaline was in full swing - as we shifted into a high speed, high octane race against the clock. From moments of anguish feeling like Kayla had where she might have lost the chance to find her father to moments of uncertainty as it felt like this was one battle she might lose all the way round. What grounded Kayla and Levi the most was their faith - what gave them courage to continue onward when hope felt lost to them was their faith and in the end, without their faith, I am unsure if either of them could have walked out of this journey without deeper scars on their souls.
Harris writes in such a taut style of dramatic suspense - her words make for a compelling read and it is how she threads us into her character's shoes that makes the journey into her stories amoungst my favourites to read! I can't wait to see what the next stories I'll be reading by her will bring into my readerly life. She truly understands how to write emotionally convicting narratives with realistic characters and circumstances that are dramatically compelling to read.
