A very interesting and quick read (about 2 - 2.5 hours) that breaks 1917 down into a variety of days, focusing on key events from all sides and all branches of the military. There are also incidents discussed concerning the home front. This was one of the most readable historical books about WWI (even one year), that I have read. While it does go into politics and motivations of the higher echelons, it is fairly grounded with individual accounts of soldiers and civilians on all fronts. All in all I felt it was a good excerpt of the events of 1917. I would like to have seen more information from the German and Turkish side, but there was information here I had not read before. I particularly enjoyed the first hand accounts and the illustrations. I would recommend to anyone who is interested in the history of WWI. ( )
