There were some enjoyable aspects to this, like the diverse cast, the array of magical beings, and the coffee shop setting. A couple of the minor characters, like Cass, were also fun to read on page.

But unfortunately, I just didn’t really click with much else. The storytelling is sloppy- the plot is slower at the start, has a strange mix of middle sections, and then gives a THREE PAGE CLIMAX. The buildup to the climax is also very stilted and wastes time introducing a rando side character who doesn’t add anything. Also, interspersed in the novel are pages from a book within the Moonstruck universe; these pages semi-reflect the plot but honestly did nothing to make the story more engaging.

There’s also the fact that a romantic couple starts to have issues, and never actually resolve them, but just kind of look at each other in the 11th hour and say “Welp, I guess we’ll go to therapy together lol!” Obviously therapy is a great resource, but using it here made for a completely unsatisfying ending, among other things. Maybe this gets wrapped up in another volume, but I just wish this was addressed better.

Finally, I found the background/atmospheric/everything but the character artwork to be utterly bland. Moonstruck somehow has taken a story with all these mythical creatures and magic and set it in the most basic-ass looking city I’ve ever seen. There is no charm in the surroundings and it makes this story just about as visually boring as possible.

I wouldn’t necessarily not recommend this...but there are also WAY BETTER graphic novels out there, so I’d say skip this one and try something else. ( )

So cute! I adore the artwork and quirky setting—there are so many silly easter eggs, like a baby-goth vampire who works at "21 Forever" (look, I have a very highbrow sense of humor, mmkay?)

Despite the frothy atmosphere, the writer does an excellent job establishing high stakes, both magical and interpersonal. I care about these characters and am excited for the next volume.

Minor quibbles: occasionally the action was unclear (every time Lindi and Mark showed up I was deeply confused about what was happening on the page—like, there were marshmallows? What was up with the marshmallows?) Additionally, I'm hoping Selena gets more character development, because it's hard to ship her and Julie when such a new relationship has SO MUCH DRAMA.

Highly recommended to fans of cute paranormal comedy. ( )

*A Thank you to Edelweiss for allowing me to read this in exchange for a honest and unbiased review*

Hello Fellow Readers,

Today we have a Graphic novel about a butt being stolen and the friends who try to get it back. First of all, what really caught my attention is the artwork. It's so cute and I think it may be my favorite artwork in a Graphic novel yet. I am going to look up the artists to see if I can get some artwork because It's really amazing.

As far as the story goes it was good. I really like Selena and Julie's relationship, but there was a moment in the book where they had a bit of a argument, which doesn't really get resolved and came out of no where. Also, the relationship is so new but they seem to be falling for each other fast. It was really cute though, and I honestly don't think I've ever rooted for a couple as quick as I rooted for them.

I really loved Chet, they were such a great character and I am so glad they were included in the book. This is the second graphic novel that I've read where they had a non binary character and I am so glad they were included because (once again) I love Chet. Unlike the last novel, Chet was more fleshed out and given more room to grow.

While the artwork is cutesy, it does deal with some heavy topics , like when your identity of who you are is taken from you, or when you believe your not "normal" and the pressure to fit in. I can't wait to read volume 2.

Overall, a good, fun, and unique read. ( )

More confusing than I expected. I feel like there are a lot of loose ends, unanswered questions, and unresolved plot points.

Note: I accessed a digital review copy of this book through Edelweiss. ( )

Cute, silly, fun. Hooray for a centaur character, and for his loud concern over his butt. Hooray for a sweet were lesbian romance. Downsides -- Julie is entirely too sensitive, in my opinion, and I started to find her annoying. It was hard to follow the action at times -- namely in the vision scenarios and in the ending, which kinda didn't make any sense at all. ( )
