At a pivotal moment in the last regular season baseball game, Ben's father (a K-9 cop) goes to the police station to track two escaped prisoners. When nobody hears from him, Ben sneaks off first to the police station with Hero, where they join the search for Ben's father, who is missing. After Ben is bitten by a venomous snake, he is hospitalized but cannot stand by idly so he sneaks off again, with a new friend. While I liked the third book of this trilogy, it seemed too much like the previous books to give it 4 stars. ( )

The story itself was very good. It is hard to go wrong on a story with animals and a kid rescuing his father. But it moved slow. The characters also needed more development. ( )
