The first 3rd of this book is absolutely incredible - the descriptions of the mass shooting and its aftermath are so intense and gripping that one feels as if they are experiencing the events with the characters. The second 3rd is slower in pace, but no less compelling as the protagonists begin putting their lives back together dealing with the tragedy and the trauma in their own ways. Reed Quatermaine fulfills his need to protect by becoming a police officer and Simone Knox channels her pain into her art. This part also reveals that there was more to the attack at the mall than meets the eye, and an evil sociopath is biding their time to finish what was started. The final 3rd ratchets up the tension once again with the development of Simone and Reed's relationship as well as the approach of the final confrontation with the villain. While the romance is lovely, it isn't as engaging as it could have been perhaps because it takes a back seat to the suspense plot. There are no real obstacles to Reed and Simone's love story and their chemistry is very subtle. Nevertheless, the climax and resolution are exciting and satisfying. Overall, Shelter in Place is a well-written page turner highly recommended for both newbies and fans of Nora's works. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Sometimes, there is nowhere safe to hide. It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at the video-game store tending to customers. Then the shooters arrived. The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever. In the years that followed, one would dedicate himself to a law enforcement career. Another would close herself off, trying to bury the memory of huddling in a ladies' room, hopelessly clutching her cell phone--until she finally found a way to pour her emotions into her art. But one person wasn't satisfied with the shockingly high death toll at the DownEast Mall. And as the survivors slowly heal, find shelter, and rebuild, they will discover that another conspirator is lying in wait--and this time, there might be nowhere safe to hide.
