It has a dark past - one in which a number of humans were killed. A past that caused it to christen itself Murderbot. But it has only vague memories of the massacre that spawned that title, and it wants to know more. Teaming up with a research transport vessal named ART (you don't want to know what the A stands for), Murderbot heads to the mining facility where it went rogue. The story is a fun tale. The free security robot has to find his 1st job while trying to pass an augmented human. He acts like a runaway slave. Suddenly he must get used to learning to human mannerisms. He needs work to go to a planet. This planet was the site of a massacre he was involved in. The free ex-security bot wants to find what actually happened. This would be easier if his human clients would stop doing stupid things that put them in danger ( )

Murderbot is great - I'm really loving this series. The poor construct just wants to be left alone, but is forced into uneasy alliances and acting as something that it's not. Looking forward to the next one! ( )

I liked this, not quite as much as book one but still a lot.

This is such a fun series and the bar was really high after book one and this basically met that bar. I loved the human characters from book one so it was hard to top them here but I did like the new characters that were introduced. A significant part of this book is MurderBot interacting with ART, another non-human character. I liked ART, but my favorite parts of these books are definitely when MuderBot interacts with human characters. I think if you liked book one, you'll like this book and I'm very excited to continue this series. ( )

Murderbot has left its humans in PreservationAux, and is on a mission to find out what happened in its previous assignment when it supposedly killed all of its clients in Ganaka Pit on RaviHyral. On its way, it meets a transportation bot that it calls ART (Asshole Research Transport) which it finds annoying, but also incredibly helpful. To get to RaviHyral, Murderbot takes a job as security for three recently fired workers who are trying to get the stolen data they had collected on RaviHyral back before they move on to other jobs. Murderbot assumes this will be an easy way to get to RaviHyral, but it has no idea what is in store for it.
Murderbot continues its exploration of what it means to be independent. It still has difficulty dealing with people, but its interaction with ART is not only funny but explains a lot about the journey Murderbot is on and how it is changing. A little short, but overall this is another good story in this unique series. ( )

There’s plenty here to entertain the many fans of the first novella.
