Evelyn Hardcastle will be murdered at 11:00 p.m. There are eight days, and eight witnesses for you to inhabit. We will only let you escape once you tell us the name of the killer. Understood? There is just a lot going on in this book that makes it overwhelming. Definitely unique and a good way to get my mystery and historical fiction lovers in my work book club to read something with science fiction elements. ( )

At first I was confused by the characters Aiden inhabited or worked with but I eventually got the hang of it. Clever ending which I won’t reveal. Good vacation read ( )

Ugh. Just Ugh. Describing it as Downton Abbey meets Groundhog Day is an insult to both Downton Abbey and Groundhog Day.

The author has never met a cliche he didn't like.

Having established the scenario (after only about 100 pages, in spite of the fact that the scenario is thoroughly spoiled by the fulsome blurb on the cover), he never stops beating you over the head with it.

Some negative reviews are saying, well, what can you expect, it's science fiction? It's not Science Fiction -- SF, good SF, isn't throwing any old nonsense at the page, and changing the rules every five pages.

I will have to read something especially pure and perfect to wash the memory of this from my mind. The Bible, maybe. Or Jane Austen. Or Philip K. Dick. ( )

Very different plot with lots to pay attention to. I actually charted the characters as they appeared so I wouldn't get lost later in the book. Glad I did. Still missed somethings. Good writing, distinct characterization and setting. ( )

Where do I start with this fiendishly clever book? It's quite possibly one of the most satisfying mysteries (that I nearly gave up on in the first chapter) that I have read in a good long while.

So I'll address that last bit - I nearly gave up on it because, quite frankly, I had not a clue what was going on or where the story was headed, as the main character, Aiden, seemed definitely unreliable. And there is a good reason for that. This is a book where all of the characters are questionable in their degree of trustworthiness. It's a tricky concept that will require you to stick with it - but oh PLEASE stick with it, because it is genius.

Quite often I feel that touted comparisons are overrated or off-the-mark, but the "Agatha Christie meets Groundhog Day" pretty much nails it. Aiden will repeat the day - and Evelyn Hardcastle's death - 8 times, through each of 8 different guests at the house. But oh - there is more to it than that, which is why it is so much fun and so completely maddening at the same time.

Give this one a chance. You won't regret it.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a review copy. ( )

To my parents, who gave me everything and asked for nothing. My sister, first and fiercest of my readers from the bumblebees onwards. And my wife, whose love, encouragement, and reminders to look up from my keyboard once in a while, made this book so much more than I thought it could be.

The future isn’t a warning my friend, it’s a promise, and it won’t be broken by us. That’s the nature of the trap we’re caught in.
Evidently, Rashton made quite an impression last night, because my passage through the house is punctuated by hearty handshakes and backslaps. Greetings lie scattered in my wake like tossed rocks, their goodwill bringing me out in bruises.
Too little information and you're blind, too much and you're blinded.
This time the past will hold her hand and squeeze. Memory will murder her.
She’s the only real thing in a world of echoes.
