Summary:
The story was about a little girl who wakes up to snow. She hurries to awaken her sleepy father and quickly gets dressed to go outside and play in the snow. As she gets dressed she says "hello" to her clothes and "goodbye" to her body parts as she covers them up. She quickly goes outside with her father and enjoys making piles of snow and makes a snowman. She also has fun sledding up and down the snow hills with her friend. At the end her mother calls out that she has made hot cocoa and heads home to enjoy it.
Personal Reaction:
I loved the book, the words rhymed as the story moved along. I enjoyed how she said silly phrases to herself as she got dressed. The illustrations were soft colored but detailed enough to see all the action that was going on as she played in the snow. I noticed the illustrator has two blue birds in every scene when they are outside. I also liked the parts of the story when she wakes her father up and he's all sleepy while her mother is comfortable in bed. At the end of the story, her father is all full of snow and her mother got to stay home where it was warm. That is how it is in my house. My kids know not to wake me up to take them outside because I do not like to wake up early or go out in the cold. They bother their father and he's the one who suffers outside. (Ha-Ha) I taught my children well!
Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. Lesson plan on seasons (winter)
2.Large group discussion about daily routines.
3. Children can point out words from the book during story time.

Summary:This is a contemporary fiction about a little girl describing her day in the snow with her father. She gave details from getting dressed, going out in the snow to make a snow man, playing, and having a few accidents in the snow. Her father and her then go inside from a day in the snow and mother makes them some hot chocolate.
Personal reaction: This book made me think of my sons when they were younger. When it snowed the kids would not have school so I would bundle them up and we would go outside and try to make our own snowman. Most of the time they wouldn't even finish and they would have a snowball fight. I couldn't and wouldn't stay out there as long as they could, I would go inside boil some milk, put out all the sweet fixing like sprinkles, marshmallows, chocolate chips and whip cream and let them make it the way they like it.
Classroom extensions:
1.On a cold day or if it starts snowing at school have a snack and hot chocolate day with students.
2.Have the children describe a snow day they had with their parents or out of school.

This is a quirky little story about a little girl and her adventures in the snow on her snow day. I found this book very relateable and the illustations very entertaining. You could read this story to the class in the winter and have them write a paragraph on what their ideal snow day would be or if they didn't like the snow, maybe their ideal weather conditions.
