I was expecting it to be cheesy or annoyingly cliche but it was none of that. The author drew me in with her characters and not-so-simple governing system of otherworldly creatures living secretly amongst humans. She managed to blend serious and humorous flawlessly. Grier finds herself mysteriously pardoned from prison after she was accused of murdering her mentor and woman who adopted her after her mother past away. She's been stripped of her title and inheritance but not the haunted house that she loves so much. She keeps herself fed by working as a tour guide for haunted tours. One evening a powerful vampire takes interest in her while she is leading a tour. He tells her that he wants to make an alliance with her which makes no sense to her. Why would a powerful rich vampire clan need an alliance with a disinherited, broke, non-practicing necromancer who has weak magic? She has big decisions to make. Luckily her two best friends live next door, Amelie and Boaz. Well, she isn't exactly sure what her relationship with Boaz is because she had a crush on him most her life but he didn't reciprocate. Now, he seems to be all about getting to know her better but his relationships are always short-lived and she's not anyone's flavor of the month. Plus, she doesn't want to ruin their friendship. Things start getting dangerous when another vampire shows up and wants her to meet with his unknown employer but he uses threats to try to convince her. She discovers the wards on her house are bring messed with too. What is going on? How to Save an Undead Life by Hailey Edwards The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy series book 1. Urban fantasy. Grier is an ex-necromancer hiding out in Savannah giving ghost tours. Her current issues include a sentient house and a vampire calling to her. Squirt - favorite pet name. Slammed doors, lights going on and off, locks opening or locking - a sentient house that expresses an opinion. Daily and often. Sigils - a form of magic. Reads a bit like New Adult - Greer is 21 and has spent years in a magical prison of sorts so is just learning her abilities and world. And world building - lacking initially but gets easier to understand as the book progresses and gets more interesting. Cliff hanger. Definitely the beginning of a series with lots of potential I just randomly found this on Kindle Unlimited. This first foray left me kind of "meh", but I kept with it and at the end I was glad I did. Wooly is awesome. You don't see a whole lot about the zombie parakeet. Grier is a little bit annoying, more specifically the way she is obsessed with Boaz. All in all I enjoyed it and am moving on to the 2nd book. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

The pay is crap, but the tips keep the lights on in her personal haunted mansion and her pantry stocked with ramen. Life is about as normal as it gets for an ex-necromancer hiding among humans. Until the society that excommunicated Grier offers her a second chance at being more than ordinary. Too bad no one warned her the trouble with being extraordinary is it can get you killed. Pretty obsessed with Necromancer stories, and it's rare I stumble upon one. Had to give this one a read as soon as I read the title. The slow build of the tension and comfortable lull the main character goes through are palpable by the reader. I went through many emotions along with her as her fate unfolds. All of the relationships throughout the story as rock solid. It was comforting to see that even in magical worlds, they suffer from the childhood crush and overbearing moms. ( )
