"Perfect for lovers of Desperate Housewives and Big Little Lies, with a dash of Single White Female, this novel will stick with readers for a long time." â?? Library Journal
The Family Next Door is an audiobook about desperate mothers, secrets among neighbors, and things women keep hidden in a suburban drama from the author of The Mother's Promise.

Small, perfect towns often hold the deepest secrets.
From the outside, Essie's life looks idyllic: a loving husband, a beautiful house in a good neighborhood, and a nearby mother who dotes on her grandchildren. But few of Essie's friends know her secret shame: that in a moment of maternal despair, she once walked away from her newborn, asleep in her carriage in a park. Disaster was avoided and Essie got better, but she still fears what lurks inside her, even as her daughter gets older and she has a second baby.
When a new woman named Isabelle moves in next door to Essie, she is an immediate object of curiosity in the neighborhood. Why single, when everyone else is married with children? Why renting, when everyone else owns? What mysterious job does she have? And why is she so fascinated with Essie? As the two women grow closer and Essie's friends voice their disapproval, it starts to become clear that Isabelle's choice of neighborhood was no accident. And that her presence threatens to bring shocking secrets to light.

This one was very Liane Moriarty to me. Liked but didn't love. ( )

In Pleasant Court, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, three families who are neighbors know each other well enough to wave hello, but are not close friends. Both internal and external family relationships change over the course of this story, with each family feeling the impact of a closely-kept secret. The author is adept at depicting scenes of family life, post-partum depression, and mother-child bonds. It is filled with twists and surprises for the reader. I found it a compelling and quick read.

Recommended to those interested in family dynamics from a woman’s point of view. Also recommended for book clubs and summer reading lists. I received an advance copy of this e-book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for a candid review. This book will be released in March 2018. ( )

I read another book by this author earlier this year and really enjoyed it. This one wasn't quite as insightful in its character depictions but still quite entertaining. This one had more Lifetime Movie about it but there are some days that I'm all for cheesy Lifetime Movies! I will still read more of Hepworth's books. ( )

If you ever get to missing the ladies of Wisteria Lane, this may be the book for you. Pleasant Court is a quiet, peaceful area, where people are neighborly though not necessarily friends. They certainly don't share their secrets, of which there are many. Some are hiding their secrets not only from the world, but also from themselves.
This was a quick read and a real page turner, with more juicy secrets than any prime time soap.
4 out of 5 stars

I received an advance copy for review. ( )
