Mark Stewart’s survey book of the Philadelphia Eagles is a comprehensive summary of the history of a team that my husband calls “The Greatest Football Team Ever!” The book starts with a short introduction, talks about some of the team’s history, where the team is today, describes their home stadium of Lincoln Financial Field, and the team uniforms. There is a chapter on some of the big victories of the team, some of the all-time best players, or “go-to guys” as the book refers to them. There is also a portion on current “go-to guys,” and Donavan McNabb, the current quarterback, is included here. A whole chapter is devoted to January 23rd, 2005, when the Eagles won the Super Bowl 27-10. This was the first time they had won the championship in 24 years!
The book also has a timeline, fun facts, a chapter on the fans, quotes by some of the most famous players, records and statistics.
There is a chapter on the game of football, how it’s played, some of the major terms, etc, that I found extremely informative. I read this book because, no matter how many games I watch, I can never seem to understand all of the finer points of the game. This is helpful to someone newer to the sport who has an interest by still cannot seem to understand it. I also really liked the glossary of terms at the very end, which I found helpful.
Anyone who is newer to football would like this book. It is very informative and easy to read. An Eagles fan would find it an enjoyable read. Two Stars.
