At the beginning of the book, we learn that it's the story of the eyewitnesses as recorded by Peniel. My first thought was how Peniel had learned to read and write in record time. After all, he was born blind and could not have learned any time before the course of book 3 (Third Watch). Anyway, that aside, the plot wasn't as strong as the previous books. The dream motif that had previously been used of Peniel is used again with a different character. I'd found it interesting at the beginning, but when the contents of the dreams became Hebrew lessons and such, it wasn't quite as enjoyable. On the other hand, the portrayal of Mary and her immediate family in Nazareth was precious. In a nutshell, a book worth reading, though not exceptional.
