Fiction. Romance. HTML:

A high school reunion is about to get down and dirty and a whole lot more complicated in this new erotic romance from NYT Bestselling Author Katee Robert.

Jake Davis had it all in high schoolâ??a scholarship to his college of choice, a promising football career, and the gorgeous prom queen for a girlfriend. And then he lost it all when he was injured right after graduation. Ten years later, he's mostly made his peace with that, and now runs a company that provides women with dates for special events. Imagine his surprise when he discovers that the ex who left him in the dust needs a fake boyfriend for their high school reunion...

Jessica Jackson used to be the mean girl to end all mean girls. But life didn't turn out like she'd thought it would, and now she's twenty-eight, single, and works as an insurance agent to A-listers instead of being the A-lister like she'd always dreamed. She can't go back to her home town and admit just how thoroughly she's failed, so she lets her friends set her up with a fake date for the reunion.

The second Jessica realizes that her fake date is Jake, she tries to call the whole thing off. The problem is the chemistry between them is even hotter now than it was when they were teenagers. Against her better judgment she lets herself get drawn into Jake's arms againâ??and into his bed. But time doesn't heal all woundsâ??sometimes, it actually makes them worseâ??and if Jessica and Jake can't learn to forgive each other, their second chance might not last the w… (más)

Prom Queen is one of those narratives that inspires lust, humor and thought provoking commentary. Katee Robert definitely knows what it means to make a statement. Just like Jake and Jessica, we all have our make or break moments. Some are terrifying, others are heartbreaking and then there are the ones that can lead to something wonderful. Jake's life defining moment left him broken, bruised and with no where to go but up. It was a long hard road but it lead the boy football star to make some real grown up decisions. Jessica's life changing moment took a lot longer but boy was it a doozy. The high school it girl with the mean spirit and the uppity attitude, now needs the help of the boy she carelessly cast aside. Payback is a *****. Ms. Robert uses realistic situations, smart dialogue and great characters to get her point across.

Jake and Jessica were the power couple back in high school; cheerleader and star athlete, prom king and queen. But when a life altering accident shatters Jake's dream of becoming an NFL star, Jessica leaves him behind without a second glance. 10 years later Jessica is contrite and ashamed of who she used to be. Mean, spiteful and a downright b*tch with a capital B. With a failed career, a few years of therapy and soul searching under her belt, she returns to Catfish Creek to make amends with a rented date on her arm. Only it turns out that her date for hire is Jake.

Jake spent the last few years picking up the pieces of his shattered life and a broken heart. Now Jessica has presented him with the perfect opportunity to exact his revenge. Nut the Jessica he meets now is nothing like the one he used to know. The one he could see beyond the Queen B facade. He understood her reasons for behaving the way she did back then. But the reformed and regretful Jessica, the one who is wary and skittish throws his vengeful plans into disarray. Now they may just have a shot at a second chance if they are willing to let go of the past. Hopefully, they'll get it right the second time round.

Any story by Katee Robert is guaranteed to bring heat and heart and Prom Queen was no exception. This second chance love story was wrapped up in redemption and forgiveness and quickly drew me in.

I really liked Jessica. She has definitely had a rough childhood, but she knows now that it doesn’t entirely excuse her mean girl behavior in high school. She’s been trying to be a better person and has found a wonderful support system in her two best friends out on the west coast. Coming home for her high school reunion isn’t something she wants to do, but she knows if she wants to move forward with her life she needs to head home and not just seek forgiveness from others, but also seek forgiveness from herself.

Jake was faced with not only an injury that took away any hope at a professional football career, but also with losing the one person he thought would be by his side while he recovered. He’s never forgiven Jessica for leaving him or truly gotten over her, so when he sees a chance to get close to her again and, yeah, maybe also get a little bit of revenge, he totally takes it. Of course he doesn’t count on his heart getting in the way of his plans.

Jake and Jessica have a lot of issues to work out, but their attraction to one another certainly isn’t one of them! These two couldn’t be near each other without the sparks going off, but unfortunately a quick roll in the hay is not going to erase the pain and heartbreak of the past.

All in all, this was a fun read that delivered everything I love in a Katee Robert book – plenty of heat and lots of heart. It did seem a bit rushed at the end and I would have liked to have had just a little bit more of what happens next (one of the drawbacks of a novella!), but overall this book delivered a great story that has me looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

Prom Queen almost makes me wish I'd gone to my ten-year reunion.

But just almost. Let's not get crazy here...after all, there was no Jake at my high school. Plenty of Karlys and Leahs, but no Jakes. But I digress...

Katee Robert has given us a fun, fast, and sexy second chance romance in the 3rd installment of the Bad Boy Homecoming series. It worked just fine as a standalone, though Jessica's brother Drew is part of a bit of a scene in this one, which immediately made me go look for his book ( Trouble Trouble , which I will be reading soon) and of course the classmate that Jake meets in a bar at one point has his own book too (Travis in Rock Star )...so, yeah. They're standalones cleverly written to make you want to read all of them.

I see what they did there.

But if they're all like this one--fun, flirty second chance romances--I can't say I really mind all that much. Prom Queen was a great way to start off my summer reading!

Rating: 4 stars / B+
