I have never read the lumber janes comics but I really enjoyed this novelization. I felt like there was enough backstory that made this story easy to follow. I loved all the various girls that became the focus of this story. I loved how this book really was so well crafted with both contemporary elements and also fantasy elements as well. I really loved the relationship between all the girls and also the mystery and adventure that they went through in this novel. I felt like it also not only was super fun but also taught the young readers various things. I will def be checking out book two in this novelization when it comes out. I read this (the novel) before reading any of the comics. And honestly, this would read better as a comic. The dialogue, descriptions, and general writing just feel a little...off...for a prose novel, but all of it would work better in graphic form. However, I did appreciate that this was one (relatively) self-contained story, whereas comics tend to have storylines that arc across issues and volumes. It did feel as though they expected you to have already read the comics, though, since there were references to events, people, etc., which I assumed (and now know) were from the comics. Note: I received a digital review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
