Charlene was always up while everyone else was sleeping. Charlene did not want to miss anything by going to bed early. She was an night owl! Charlene's nephew came to visit and they would do different things together at night. Charlene and William would stay up all night because they would be sharing stories. When William is gone Charlene always writes to him about what he is missing.
I would ask the children what is a night owl, and then explain to them at an owl is a animal that sleeps in the day and stays up at night. That's why Charlene was called a night owl. ( )

Charlene is a lady who loves nighttime. She is the only one in her neighborhood who is up all night. While everyone else sleeps, she bakes, goes for walks, and picks raspberries. She feels that if she goes to sleep early, she may miss out on something. When her nephew visits, he also stays up late and they have picnics late at night. When he goes back home, they write letters to each other about what they will do at night the next time he visits. The story is easy to read and the pictures helps children to better understand what is happening. ( )
